The Membership Committee is responsible for conducting, supervising and overseeing the membership intake process of all new candidates seeking admissions into the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. The before mentioned actions are to be done in accordance with the Standing Orders adopted by the General Organization for such purpose.
The Social Committee’s responsibility is to provide for the mutual acquaintance and entertainment of members of the fraternity by arranging social events, affairs. The committee is also responsible for encouraging collaborative actions in an effort to create a sense of togetherness amongst the chapter’s members.
The Nominating Committee is responsible for to the appropriate inquiry and investigation into brothers eligible for the various offices of the chapter. Upon the conclusion of the investigation and inquiry, the committee shall have the responsibility of nominating the names of brothers who the committee feels are qualified and eligible for various offices of this chapter.
The Reclamation Committee’s responsibility is to serve as a communicative link between college chapters and Tau Lambda and shall be responsible for reclamation. The Committee is also responsible for identifying brothers in a geographic area who are not currently affiliated with the local chapter, informing identified Brothers of chapter sponsored programs and projects, and inviting those Brothers to attend chapter meetings on a regular basis.
The responsibility of the Executive Committee is to insure that officers and the various committees faithfully perform their respective duties. The committee shall make recommendations to the chapter regarding matters which have come before it and be empowered to make decisions for the body between regular meetings. This Committee shall be the final interpreter of the constitution and bylaws of Tau Lambda Chapter.
The responsibility of the Technology Committee is to analyze technology systems utilized by the Fraternity, and in concert with other fraternal entities to determine the best environments to implement the goals of the organization. It is also the committee’s responsibility to utilize the latest technology to communicate with our constituents and make our operations more efficient and user-friendly.
The responsibility of the Service Committee is to engage the chapter by planning community service activities which includes but is not limited to carrying out the 4 National Programs: A Voteless People Is A Hopeless People, A Charles Haston’s My Brother’s Keeper, Project Alpha, and Go To High School Go To College.
The responsibility of this committee is to receive and hold title to the property and to engage in contracts, ie insurance policies, loan documents and the like, with respect to the operation of the house, and to insulate the brothers from liability. The committee’s other responsibility is to generally manage the House. The original officers on the committee were Brother Julian Blackshear as President, Brother Michael Crooms as Treasurer and Brother James Berry as Manager. The committee members were Brothers Stan Evans, Melvin Ferguson, Chuck Henderson, William L. Hipps, Floyd Jones and Victor Moore.
The responsibility of Awards Committee is to poll the chapter brothers as it relates to awards presented at the annual Founder’s Day Luncheon – Specifically the Chapter Brother of the Year Award & the Career Honoree Award. The committee is a two person ad-hoc committee that is appointed by the Tau Lamba chapter President.
Tau Lambda Chapter was organized in 1926, at what was then called Tennessee Agricultural and Industrial State College at Nashville, Tennessee, after its application was accepted by the General Convention. Brother Maney Owen, president of the Chi Chapter (Meharry Medical College), set aside the chapter in January, 1927.
